Hello, it's Alex from the Remote Work Life podcast here. I hope you are well. I want to continue this series of podcasts talking about the pillars of remote work. I developed these pillars of having spoken to a number of remote CEOs, leaders and founders across different leading remote businesses. I've also spoken to a number of remote workers, colleagues, etc. People who've worked in the remote space for a while to understand their feelings, their thoughts and opinions on remote work. And from all of these conversations what I've done is look for some common denominators. I've looked for some recurring themes and really tried to build seven pillars of remote work to help you not only to understand these remote businesses better, but also to understand if you're, for example, looking for a role in remote work, so you can understand, I guess, what it takes to work in a remote business. If you're a manager, you need to understand what it takes to really nurture your team, to build your team and to grow as well as an individual. So these pillars, I hope, will help you in some way with your development on those parts and we're not really going to go into any detail, but I'm just going to really signpost these pillars for you and the next pillar that I want to talk about today is defined goals, because what I've discovered is you know, it's obviously important in business to have defined goals, but remote businesses have to go a step further. They define their goals. Remote businesses have to go a step further. They define their goals, but what they do is they seamlessly articulate their vision, their mission, their purpose, via their brand, talking about what their goals are, and often these goals are related to solving problems, helping people, etc. Etc. So defined goals is certainly an important aspect of remote work. And how does this apply to you? Well, when I, when I think about t, when I think about businesses like, for example, tax jar, they talk about we are proud to help businesses and developers spend less time on sales tax and more time growing the business they love.

Then there's other teams. If you look at websites or other businesses, if you look at websites like Zappy or Automatic or Meet Edgar, basecamp, buffer, when you're reading their blogs, when you're reading their websites, etc. All the material that they put out, they are really explicit about their goals, their mission, that they're not afraid to talk about them. And they won't necessarily talk about it. You know they won't necessarily state that particular purpose, but a lot of the language and how they use it, how they communicate. That language really speaks volumes about what their aims are, what their goals are, what their mission is, etc. Their purpose.

So what you can then do is get a better understanding of that particular business and therefore, for example, if you're a job seeker, you can understand if there is some or any alignment in what that particular business is trying to achieve, if there's any alignment with yourself in that particular business. If you're, you know, obviously, if you're working as a manager or wanting to work as a manager, it's going to be important, for example, for you to really really live and breathe those goals, live and breathe that mission, that vision that that business has, because that will help you to really live and breathe those goals, live and breathe that mission, that vision that that business has, because that will help you to keep your team on track when things get hard and, as you know, or as you may know, it can be a challenge being a remote worker. So things like the vision, things like the mission, things like the vision, things like the mission, things like the vision, the mission and the purpose can help you and your team to keep that focus, that you need to keep them motivated and to keep them grounded. So, as a manager, it's important to you, but as a job seeker, as I alluded to before, it's going to help you to do your research on that particular business, and you will either feel a connection with that business or not, having, you know, looked at all those different media and those different points of information that I mentioned earlier on, like even things like YouTube videos, or they may have a podcast. So the language that they use, the mission, the you know, the goals and the purpose, and the language that they use to articulate all of these things will help you to understand if there's some sort of connection between yourself and them. So that's it.

As I said, I want to just keep this one short and sweet.

So what I would say to you is just please look out for the other podcasts in this series, because there are seven pillars that I've identified in total, and each one of them is connected in some way, but each one of them is just as important as the next.
